Understanding the complex rheology of human blood plasma

چکیده
Blood plasma (BP) is a borderline non-Newtonian fluid. Few studies have characterized the rheology of BP and even less focused on understanding its subtle viscoelastic traits, which were only somewhat recently acknowledged. We use passive microrheology to measure bulk response human samples under shear at body ambient temperatures. Evidence subdiffusive behavior in mean-squared displacement observed highest frequencies probed, we attribute stress relaxation protein molecules or chains. Jeffreys-like complex moduli computed thereof. The microenvironments albumin, fibrinogen, gamma-globulin solutions (key proteins) probed as well. Single proteins an aqueous buffer showed no signs viscoelasticity within experimental resolution. Conversely, mixed together, they appear promote same kind short-term elastic seen plasma. All all, fresh look presented.

Rheology of human blood plasma: viscoelastic versus Newtonian behavior.
We investigate the rheological characteristics of human blood plasma in shear and elongational flows. While we can confirm a Newtonian behavior in shear flow within experimental resolution, we find a viscoelastic behavior of blood plasma in the pure extensional flow of a capillary breakup rheometer. The influence of the viscoelasticity of blood plasma on capillary blood flow is tested in a micr...
متن کاملEffects of Astaxanthin on Human Blood Rheology
Effects of astaxanthin (AX) derived from H. pluvialis on human blood rheology were investigated in 20 adult men with a single-blind method. The experimental group was 57.5 +/- 9.8 years of age and the placebo group was 50.8 +/- 13.1 years of age. A blood rheology test that measures whole blood transit time was conducted using heparinized blood of the volunteers by a MC-FAN apparatus (microchann...
متن کاملThe Rheology of the Blood
In the preceding paper (1b) a formula was developed for the lowering of the fluidity of a medium by a mixture of proteins, given the volume concentration of each and its fluidity-lowering constant. Whole blood is now shown to follow an essentially similar formula, except that the hemoglobin content is taken from the literature as the best available measure of the volume of the blood cells Delta...

Nearly all these materials have a viscosity that drops at higher rates of shear velocity resp, stress. This is the phenomenon of shear thinning which becomes progressively larger as the volume concentration of solid particles increases. At high concentration of solid content, the low shear rate viscosity region disappears completely, the material is yielding. Some materials show after the shear...

1 AAN013 shear rate behavior. For example, gauge variation can be caused by variable post-extrusion die swell, and warpage can occur from non-uniform relaxation during cooling of an improperly formulated injection molding compound. Also, by testing at low enough shear rates so that the measurements are in the melt’s linear viscoelastic region, the data can be linked directly to the polymer’s mo...
